I don't know the name, but it's a manual 5 speed (obviously). If my clutch goes I'm entertaining the thought of replacing the transmission with the 5 speed from the DW12 diesel engine as those gears are far longer. Or a 6 speed from a C5.

- 302 Windsor
- 600 Holly Vac Sec
- Edlebrock performer dual plane manifold - ports matched to head inlets
- flat-top pistons
- mild cam (no idea of the grind - I have the spec sheets somewhere...)
- standard crank - balanced
- standard heads with opened and matched ports, hardened valve seats for unleaded. Rockers are standard with new pushrods
- standard block - the guy at the machine shop was impressed at the condition of the bores, no oversize needed, just a hone to take the glaze away.
- roller timing chain
- extractor headers - these are the weak link in this motor IMO - too many kinks in the bends for my liking, but at the time I ran out of cash so the headers I had went back on.
Water pump, fuel pump, etc are all stock Ford items.
I have no idea of the power output/torque output never having had it dynoed, I can tell you though that it is a lot more fun than before. The motor was a standard 2 barrel and couldn't drag a sailor off your sister. The motor is a non-standard fitment for my car - Australian Ford 1964 XM 2 door Hardtop. They are almost the same chassis as a similar North American spec Falcon Sprint of the same era, but Ford Aust. didn't do the right thing by this car and stick a Windsor in it as standard, instead inflicting an asthmatic 170ci or 200ci six on it instead.
The best thing is that I built it myself - with some assistance. I am not a mechanic and have never done this type of thing before, but I am enthusiastic...
I am fortunate to have a good mate who is a mechanic, who also runs his own workshop and is a Ford fanatic. Basically he let me loose in his workshop, occasionally looking over my shoulder to make sure I didn't mess things up at critical points (torque-ing down main bearing caps, heads, making sure the cam was lubed properly before installation, etc). It took me a few months of weekends to strip it down, send things of to the machinist, and rebuild but it was very cathartic. Much beer consumed with like-minded people probably extended the build time, but its all part of the fun.
The idea was to build it and make it look like it was supposed to be there in the first place. The ol' girl is a cruiser and will be getting some more good loving after our summer - going to have a crack at bodywork and respray after a engine/trans/dif out strip down. Stay tuned...

Awesome! I live in the US now, but I grew up in Auckland. I'd love to see some photos of your 2000.
Having driven both the 2000 and 2500, there really is very little difference. It might have been that our 2500 was pretty worn out, and gran's 2000 has been pampered since new, but I always thought that the 2000 was actually a bit nicer to drive. With a shorter stroke, it was a bit more free-revving, and I didn't really notice the power deficit. We briefly had a 2.5PI as well, running a TR6 camshaft and a few induction and exhaust tweaks. I never drove it (I didn't have my license at the time), but ye gods, that thing was fast on the rare occasions that it was running right.
They seem to have had a bit of a resurgence recently – the 2500 failed its WOF earlier this year, due to some pretty significant rust in the sills and pillars. Dad chucked it up on TradeMe for $300, but even with all the rust, and a thoroughly worn-out powertrain (it had over 320,000km on the clock, with no major maintenance) it ended up going for nearly $1000.
Here are some photos of them. I love the look of the Mk1 Estate so much – I'd love to own one myself one day – preferably in 2.5PI form:

That's so cool! As my Dad said when I told him, such a small world! Mine is sitting in my grandfather's garage at the moment since I am sanding it back and repainting it, but with a set of new plugs, distributor cap, rotor and wires it runs smooth as. I also had the clutch hydraulics refurbished so it is now a mover, and the perfect interior shows its original 75000 miles. Don't have any photos at the moment but when I get home I can put some up.

I'm late to the party here, but what the heck
2.5L (150.14 CID) SOHC boxer 4
165 hp @5600 RPM
166 lb/ft @ 4000 RPM
10.0:1 Compression ratio
3.92 Bore
3.11 stroke
16 valve
Putting your foot down results in two stages:
1) "I don't wanna do this leave me alone"
and
2) "OK fine you win I guess I'll climb up onto the cam."
I tried timing 0-60 once with an iphone and it came out to something like 11 seconds. People in traffic with their crossovers don't know how hard this thing works to keep up with them.

port injected.
8.2:1 compression
245 WHP @ 4,800 rpm
297 WTQ @ 2,500 rpm ( TQ is so early the graph doesn't go to a low enough rpm to show a curve, dyno graph starts at 2,500 rpm. )

Indeed it is!
Those interiors hold up amazingly well. Even the white one, which, over 46 years and 250,000 miles, has almost always been driven with one or two large dogs in the back, is still in great shape. The blue one did similarly well – the driver's seat collapsed not long before we sold it, but aside from that, it was still really good inside.
They're great cars, and it's wonderful to know that people are finally taking an interest in them. Living in the US now, I'm not sure if I'll have a chance to own one again (a handful of Mk1 2000s were sold here, but I doubt that there are many, if any, left now), but I'll always have a soft spot for them. I'd love to hear more about yours, and if there's anything you'd like to know about them, technical, historical, or otherwise, give me a shout – if I don't know myself, I can probably refer you to somebody who does. My folks used to have a pretty comprehensive stash of spares (we had a parts car at one point) – I'm not sure if they still have any, but if you're after something, let me know, and I'll ask.
